I just read the second part of this wonderful series last week. I couldn't wait to read the conclusion to the story of Carter and Sadie. So I immediately bought this book from Flipkart! Well , I have to say, this book is worth the money you spend. When the Book of Overcom The third and hopefully not final instalment in the series, The Serpent's Shadow brings to light the upcoming apocalypse. When the Book of Overcoming Apophis - their last hope - is snatched away before their eyes, Sadie and Carter have no choice but to follow Plan B.

And if you know anything about Plan Bs, they are Plan Bs for a reason. Because they normally involve allying yourselves with evil magicians, talking to mentally unstable gods, debating over the 'hotness level' of guys, searching for lost sheut , hosting gods, fighting with gods, talking to your dead parents and trying to save the world from eternal Chaos and destruction.

So obviously, they go with Plan B. But Ma'at isn't always on their side. The Kane siblings are forced to make heart-tearing decisions that could hold the lives of others in the balance, as well as having to work both together and apart.

Can they resist the lure of Isis and Horus - and should they? Carter struggles with the weight of his new duties and expectations as well as his undeniable attraction to Zia Rashid, a girl whose role in the upcoming war is paramount and shrouded in mystery. As for Sadie Sure, Walt's days are numbered and the drop-dead gorgeous God of the Dead Anubis is as mind-boggling as ever he still speaks in riddles , but a girl has bigger things to worry about.

I was very pleased with the amount of Anubis-ness in this book - yes, yes, I am getting as bad as Sadie but cut me some slack But Sadie found this shadow box. She thinks it's some sort of clue. You wouldn't know anything about using shadows against Apophis, would you? My understanding of magic is fairly straightforward.

Hit enemies with a sword until they're dead. If they rise again, hit them again. Repeat if necessary. Carter is scolding me, as always. He says Ammit is female. I'll admit I can't prove it either way, but I've always thought of Ammit as a boy monster. He's much too hyper to be otherwise and the way he marks his territory Shu just lowered the air pressure. The god of No, wait. Leaky balloons.

I realised that anyone who dared to hurt me would suffer his full wrath. Mar 05, Vampress Bathory rated it it was amazing. I loved it, obviously, but of course there isn't a book written by Rick Riordan that I don end up loving so there's that. I like mythology in general, but there is something about Ancient Egypt that makes my nerdy heart go boom boom boom chica boom so I feel like The Kane Chronicles was written epecially for me.

I wish! I loved all the characters be them good or evil. Yes, I admit that I find Set really funny :. Kinda reminds me of Nico di Angelo. Speaking of the Anubis business, the whole Walt thing didn't sit so well with me at first, just because in the second book Sadies' attraction for Walt felt too sudden for me so I didn't felt their attraction at all.

But I understand the need for Walt as a character and I accepted him just because Anubis and Sadie couldn't happen without him. I got your attention with this non? Well I guess you have to read it in order to see what happens. I just wanted to talk about it because that was the only thing that I could get snippy about, the rest was just epic as usual.

I recommend it!!! May 01, Savi3 rated it it was amazing. Um well frigging amazing!! Any fans of rick? Well have you read the lost hero and remember the awesome aphrodite kids that helped piper and then there was drew well And apperently Sadie is all buddy buddy with Lucy and hates drew Just one more reason I wish Sadie Kane was real so I could hug her!

And OMG!!!! Zia and Carter!!! Now we need a awesome name like percabeth Percy Annabeth or Jipper Jason piper or even Peo piper Um well frigging amazing!! I honestly don't know! View all 10 comments. Nerve wreaking and full of adrenaline rush. This one is my favourite from the Kane Chronicles Series.

Love triangles are one of my pet peeves but I liked it in this one. At some point the book became quite predictable though. Walt hosting Anubis, I saw that one coming already. There was no character development in the series. It is a good treat for Rick Riordan fans.

Aug 27, Alaina rated it liked it Shelves: fiction , young-adult , , fantasy , mythology. It was an interesting and fast paced series to randomly dive into. Yes, I mean randomly because I totally forgot that I added these books to my TBR but one day I just came across the first book and decided it was time to dive into it. From there, meeting Carter and Sadie was a tornado on fire kind of experience.

The adventures they went on sort of kept me on my toes but left me endless unanswered questions. Each book was, again, fast paced in my eyes and didn't shy away from the drama or the action. It also felt like this was great for family bonding since Carter and Sadie basically lived different lives from one another. The relationships struggles definitely made me laugh because of how awkward they were.

Sadie with boys was probably way more awkward than Carter with girls but it all just made me laugh because it just felt realistic to me. In the end, I'm sort of glad that I got to dive into these. Or Trials of Apollo? I don't even think I finished The Heroes of Olympus.. And the only people who have a fighting chance against him are the young brother-sister duo of Carter and Sadie Kane. The twosome are strong Egyptian magicians, who follow the paths of Horus and Isis respectively, have incredible powers at their disposal, are befuddled by their confusing love-lives and have the oh-so-simple onus of saving the world on their weary shoulders.

Will the motor-mouthed Sadie and the super-grounded Carter provide us with a satisfying conclusion to all the Egyptian drama and chaos?

Will they have their very own happy-endings? Over-achieving fathers, I tell you. Whether he will be able to guide the young initiatives at Brooklyn House, rally the doubting magicians together, plunge into danger with the hare-brained schemes of his fiercely independent sister, defang the primordial essence of Chaos Which translates into the fact that I no longer imagine myself as a fierce, independent, smart-talking, butt kicking, YA heroine.

Now I dream of being the fierce, independent, smart-talking, butt kicking mentor who guides aforementioned YA heroine. If I would channelize all things impressive and endearing into how a modern day young girl should be, she would have been a blend of Hermione Granger , Annabeth Chase , Luna Lovegood and now Sadie Kane.

As always, Sadie is a delight. She yammers away non-stop, casts powerful spells with a newly discovered aura of maturity, reverts back to a narcisstic teen in the throes of her love triangle and is as well-rounded as you would expect a teenager to be.

It would be extremely gratifying to launch into a dissecting character sketch on each and every member of the supporting cast. Roll your eyes with suppressed exasperation over Horus , Isis and toothless Ra. The scenery is engaging. Rick Riordan infuses each ambience with the right emotions. Speaking of the good man, Riordan He continues his non-yawn inducing insights into mythology, has a writing style that knocks the Gods off their pedestals without ever plunging into blasphemy and solidifies his innate ability to infuse death-defying situations with that essential element of humour.

Several broad hints are dropped about a possible sequel that will merge the world of Percy Jackson with that of the Kane siblings. Would I like to read it? I am unsure. On one hand, I know that Rick Riordan will never disappoint. His writing style appeals to me. On the other hand, do I want too many layers added to two splendid individual tales that worked just fine in their own separate niches? Come away enchanted. View all 4 comments. OH BOY. The third Kane Chronicles book!

And the last one too, I think Pretty cover. It has a giant phallus in the background. I mean, the Washington Monument. Sep 25, Raoufa Ibrahim rated it really liked it Shelves: books-i-own , myth. In the third and final installment of this electrifying trilogy, Apophis is hell bent on bringing forth the end of days, and the Kanes have a limited amount of time to defeat the god of Chaos himself and save mankind. Following on from the Percy Jackson phenomenon about Greek gods and their offspring, the Kane Chronicles breathes life into the Egyptian gods and goddesses. With magical abilities and an academy of magical students, these siblings have the weight of the world on their shoulders.

They are picked up by Ra's boat and guarded by other gods such as Sobek. Ra then turns from a senile old man to a young, strong man. Zia then hosts Ra, and they return to the mortal world, the Brooklyn House is at the First Nome, helping Amos and the others protect it. In the halls of the First Nome, they find Leonid, their Russian friend, bleeding on the ground from a cut made by Sarah Jacobi.

They pass through the Hall of Ages into the Throne Room. Amos was also restraining Set from killing any of the magicians which tired Amos out and annoyed Set. The rebels team up to take down Amos, and then Jacobi attacked Sadie.

Kwai then attacked with lightning strikes and announced that he hosted Apophis. The magicians team up and Sadie summons Ma'at for the second time and saves the First Nome from destruction. The other gods come to help them, while Ra gives Carter the pharaoh's throne. He orders the other gods to help and they obey after seeing Carter slice Serqet in half. Apophis rises and the magicians and gods team up to fight against Apophis. Apophis splits everyone into different layers of the duat, making everyone fight a different version of Apophis.

Apophis eats Ra, and then Sadie and Carter execrate his shadow. He regurgitates Ra and explodes. Ra explains that chaos and ma'at are in balance and if Apophis is banished, the gods are banished as well.

Ra and the rest of the gods retreat from the world. Carter and Sadie go to see their father to report Setne's escape. Their father is just happy that they're alive and succeeded in saving the world.

Sadie talks to her mother who asks her to be careful because her gift of prophecy has shown her visions of "other gods" and "rival magic".

Carter takes Zia out on a trip at the Mall of America. She tells him that she will be staying in Brooklyn House. They share a passionate friendship and start a relationship.

Meanwhile, Bes and Tawaret finally get together after many centuries. Walt, now the host of Anubis, dances with Sadie and the pair also have a romantic time. The book ends with an invitation to anyone with pharaoh's blood to join the House of Life. And their best magician—and best friend—Walt Stone, is dying of an illness that not even their top healer Jaz can cure. Still, Walt refuses to let Sadie and Carter face the deadly challenges ahead without him. First up? Saving a special scroll, aptly named the Book of Overcoming Apophis and housed in a museum in Dallas, from being destroyed.

The face tells her to forget the scroll and go for the golden box instead. Then it vanishes. Sadie is troubled, but keeps their goal in mind.
