What makes sweet and spicy tea sweet

Please contact our customer service department for questions on specific medical concerns. So maybe not quite so conspiratorial. I guess they have an All Natural vs Not Quite All Natural distinction, too, though it is very difficult to tell the diff by just glancing at the box. Thank you for this blog. I love this tea also. All new products that we develop are, either, all natural or certified organic. Our teas do not contain MSG, gluten, natural or artificial sweeteners or preservatives.

What is the artificial ingredient in the Original Sweet and Spicy Tea? Sweet and Spicy Tea and Herb Blend is the name. It comes in a box with a sketch of a man plowing a field with a horse. The trees are billowy, the colors faded -- compelling evidence of its purity. And lest there be doubt, the brand name references goodness and the planet. Oh and it says "natural" on the package.

The tea is an unsweetened black tea with herbs, so logically I reasoned the "sweet" was coming from the herbs. I let it steep and cool and then sipped. It was Coca-Cola sweet!! Have you ever licked the outside of an orange? Orange oil: Not Sweet. And then I saw it, Natural Flavors. I had glossed over it at first, but natural flavors was actually the very first ingredient listed after black tea meaning the largest ingredient by volume of all the herbs.

I emailed Good Earth the brand in my cup and asked about their flavoring. This is what they said:. The specific components are proprietary. If need to be known for a medical reason, your physician may contact us in writing with the specific request.

There is no MSG or gluten in the blend or flavors used. The medical reason is that I want to know what's going into my body. I emailed Good Earth back to ask specifically how it was that the tea was so sweet and whether it was the flavors that were making it so. Where are you? This is a flavored rooibos herbal in a bag.

The first thing I noticed when tasting is the lack of that harsh scratchy woody rooibos taste. I like that. It tastes predominantly of cinnamon. What little by my standards heat I catch I think is the ginger grabbing as the cinnamon passes by. There is orange, chamomile, and anise that add sweetness without calling much attention to themselves. The lemongrass is more fill in than a real note. I thought it was a fun cup. I had missed this note! Good news! Also, did the rooibos not have that Robitussin taste?

I can see the cough syrup analogy. To me, worse case, it is more like drinking cherry wood sawdust. They have two versions — this one is decaf, the other, if I recall correctly, is black tea based.

The taste is similar but different with each. It was very strong! I would probably add some extra water next time or steep it for a short time.

I love this tea… I feel like this is something you could give to someone who proclaims to hate tea, and they would still like it. In fact I have made coworkers try this and everyone has liked it.

It is spicy though, so beware of that. I personally could dump cinnamon and ginger into most coffee or tea I drink, so my spiciness in drink tolerance may be a bit higher than most. I find I do not need to sweeten this tea, at all, which is also very nice. A coworker one time said it smells like Christmas in a cup, just that good, warm, spicy, homey kind of feel. Love it, keep several boxes on hand at all times! I steep it a while, so the spiciness really develops. Taste: This tea was actually a recommendation by a family member.

I was also drawn to the name of this tea how could tea from a tea bag possibly be already sweet? Since buying it the first time a month or so ago I have already brought another box. This tea could also replace a sweet treat imo. Steeping I find that 3 minutes is good for a cup, 4 minutes the flavor can be too strong. The bag last for about 2 steeps with the second one being on the lighter side.

Overall I like this tea a lot! Teas Places Discussions Explore.
